About Maya

Maya Wilkins is a senior at Ball State University set to graduate in May 2023 with majors in journalism and telecommunications and minors in history and political science. From September to December, Wilkins has worked as an editorial intern at St. Louis Magazine in St. Louis, Missouri.

While at Ball State, Wilkins has been actively involved with The Ball State Daily News, serving as associate news editor, copy director, summer managing editor and lifestyles editor. She has won awards through the Indianapolis Press Club Association, Associated Collegiate Press, Indiana Society of Professional Journalists and Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

This school year, Wilkins has taken a step back from student media, using her final school year to network for freelance and internship opportunities.

Her study of journalism began in 2019 when she took her first journalism class, but her love for storytelling began as soon as she learned to write. Wilkins loves how journalism gives her the power to tell the stories of those who need it most and the platform it gives her to share those stories.
